Can Herbs Treat Hirsutism
Hirsutism is the technical name given to the growth of unwanted hair in females. Such an undesirable condition is attributed to the excess presence of a natural chemical substance called Androgen hormone in the body. Hair removal techniques which can permanently address this issue are costly and requires presence of experts while undergoing them. This article chronicles in brief the take of research, on the effectiveness of herbs in treating this menace.
Hirsutism and Herbs:
Research studies done on this topic report that a medicinal plant called Licorice, drinking spearmint tea and taking supplement like Myo Inositol can naturally treat the problem of excess hair in women.
Knowledge Gained from Research on Licorice:
Licorice is known for its medicinal benefits for thousands of years. Its effectiveness to treat Hirsutism was tested by researchers in November 2004. Nine healthy women belonging to the age group of 22-26 years participated in the research. They were given preparations made from this herb in two cycles. At the end of the study, it was concluded that this herb has the potential of being an alternative therapy for excess hair growth in women.
Knowledge Gained from Research on Spearmint Tea:
In the February 2007, researchers from the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, School of Medicine, Suleyman Demirel University, Isparta, Turkey tested the effectiveness of Spearmint tea on the hormone Androgen which is responsible for Hirsutism in women. 12 women with excess hair growth complication were given this herbal tea twice for 5 days. These women were experiencing their menstrual cycles. In such phases, there is a very high presence of the hormone Androgen in women’s body. At the end of the study, it was concluded that this herbal tea can treat mild cases of excess hair growth in women.
Knowledge Gained from Research on Myo Inositol Supplement:
Researchers from the First Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University La Sapienza, Rome, Italy wanted to understand the effectiveness of myo-inositol in treating excess hair growth issue. Forty-six hirsute women participated in the 6 months long research. Finally, it was concluded that this supplement can significantly reduce hirsutism in women.
