What Is Epilation?

Epilation is a hair removal process which removes the hair from under the skin’s surface. There are a lot of hair removal options for people to choose from. Epilation is a popular choice as it gives long lasting results. Most people get confused with epilation and depilation. Depilation does not remove the hair from under the skin’s surface. Depilation is limited only to the skin’s surface. Epilation removes the entire hair from the follicle.

Epilation can include temporary and permanent hair removal methods. Temporary hair removal methods are:

  • Electric epilators
  • Sugaring
  • Waxing
  • Tweezing etc

Permanent hair removal methods include:

  • Photo epilation
  • Electrolysis
  • Laser Treatment

Advantages of epilation include long lasting results and preventing the growth of new hair follicles over a period of time. Choosing epilation for hair removal over depilation has many such advantages to it.

Disadvantages include pain, allergy, itching and ingrown hair which commonly occur by using other hair removal methods too. Laser treatment is very costly when compared to other hair removal methods. It requires multiple sessions to completely get rid of hair. Electrolysis can be painful and time consuming.

Waxing, sugaring and plucking are time consuming as the individual hair follicles are plucked. Sugaring and waxing cause pain and can be messy to use. Depending on your preference and monetary constraints, you can choose the best epilation method. If you are still confused or doubtful about it, take an expert opinion. You can discuss your doubts or queries with a doctor or a beauty specialist. Depending on the hair growth, skin type and overall health condition, a suitable method may be suggested.
