How Microwave Radiation Remove Hair?

It is a type of energy wave. It is also used in microwave ovens to heat and cook food items. However, this energy wave is not absorbed by all substances. Our hair contains fat and water irrespective of its type. When this energy wave falls on hair, it is absorbed by the hair’s fat and water molecules. After absorption, these molecules start vibrating to produce heat. This heat destroys the root of hair called follicle. The blood provides all the nutrients to root. They get get absorbed by it. In this way, hair gets all its nourishment through follicles. The heat stops blood supply to the root making the hair dull and weak. In this way, this energy wave can remove hair. In 1999, FDA cleared the usage of all hair removal devices using microwave. But this technique cannot be used to remove hair on the face.

  1. the suggestion is very dangerous. There is now foolproof way of convincing the microwaves to heat only the hair or follicle and not heat the skin. This was the subject of a lawsuit a couple of years ago in which a patient was seriously scarred by such a microwave hair removal apparatus.
